Sales can be an emotional rollercoaster full of ups and downs. My first sales job was in a call center, and I failed to understand the importance of mental health. This article will provide you with three actionable tips you can implement both inside and outside of work to thrive in your sales environment.
Make Time for Self-Care
Self-care is probably an activity you would think of doing outside of work. With back-to-back Zoom meetings, it can be hard to find time to take care of yourself. Nonetheless, self-care is essential. What has helped me most is scheduling self-care activities on my calendar throughout the workday. Whether it be a walk, lunch, or jamming out to music, your brain needs a break. to avoid sales fatigue, make time for self-care.
Discover Your Morning Routine
Sales is a mental game, and in order to perform at a high level, you need to prepare your mind. The first hour of your day sets the tone for the rest of your day. It is crucial that in this first hour that you allow your mind to wake up. I do not check social media as I’m waking up. Instead, I listen to my pump-up song and write in my journal. This allows me to collect my thoughts and prepare for the day ahead.
Take Time to Breath
Let’s be honest, sales is stressful. I find myself exhausted at times from making cold calls. At times I get nervous. Breathing techniques have helped me stay centered and keep my cool under pressure. What I have found most helpful is breathing in for five seconds, holding my breath for five seconds, and then taking five seconds to exhale. I typically repeat this exercise until I feel calm. Breathing techniques are a simple practice that can make a huge difference.
Finding the Balance
I have learned firsthand how important it is to prioritize your mental health, especially if you are working in sales. I neglected it for a long time due to my lack of understanding as it relates to the positive impact it can have on my personal and professional life. Practicing self-care activities will help reduce burnout and positively impact your levels of productivity. Having a defined morning routine will allow you to set the tone for your day. Breathing techniques will give you the ability to stay calm under pressure. Let’s make mental health a priority in both our personal and professional lives. Happy hunting salespeople!
